Making History: Greece First Time Champions // 03 August 2008

Greece wrote another chapter in their storied basketball history by beating Lithuania 57-50 to capture the nation's first ever gold medal at the U18 European Championship Men.

Kostas Sloukas led Greece with 16 points and Kostas Papanikolaou hit two free throws and tipped in another missed foul shot over the final 44 seconds to secure the victory for the host Greeks.
Motiejunas MVP, Two Greeks In All-Tournament Team // 03 August 2008
Lithunia's Donatas Motiejunas was named Most Valuable Player of the U18 European Championship Men despite Lithuania losing in the gold medal game against hosts Greece in Pyrgos.

The 17-year-old Motiejunas scored 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in Lithuania's 57-50 loss to Greece in the final.
Croatia Edge France For Bronze // 03 August 2008
Toni Prostran made four free throws in the final 18 seconds to give Croatia a 73-68 victory over France to capture the bronze medal at the U18 European Championship Men, in Pyrgos.

Mario Delas scored 18 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as the Croatians collected their sixth U18 medal of their history and first since gold in 2002.
Spain Pip Serbia For Fifth // 03 August 2008
Josep Franch made two three-pointers in the final four minutes and two free throws with 14 seconds left to lead Spain to an 89-85 victory over Serbia to capture fifth place at the U18 European Championship Men.

The result gives Spain a spot in next summer's U19 FIBA World Championship according to FIBA regulations.
Greece Seeking First Gold, Lithuania To Crash The Party // 03 August 2008
Hosts Greece hope to complete a perfect tournament and capture their first gold medal at the U18 European Championship Men while Lithuania look to crash the party for their second title at the age group.

When Lithuania and Greece met on Thursday in the final game of the Qualifying Round, it was almost a meaningless game since both teams had already qualified for the semi-finals. But this time glory is at stake in Sunday's final in Pyrgos.
Lithuania Destroy France To Get Chance At Gold // 02 August 2008
Lithuania will get a re-match versus Greece in the final of the U18 European Championship after putting away France 79-55 in Saturday's second semi-final.

France had no answer for the Lithuania interior combination of Donatas Motiejunas, who had 24 points and seven rebounds and Tautvydas Slezas, who added 17 points and nine rebounds.
Greece Dismantle Croatia, Book Place In Final // 02 August 2008
Greece booked their ticket for the final of the U18 European Championship Men by dismantling Croatia 82-62 in the semi-final as four players scored in double figures.

Kostas Papanikolau scored all 19 of his points in the first half while Leonidas Kaselakis added 19 points of his own for the Greeks, who return to the championship match for a second straight summer in hopes of winning the nation's first gold at this age group.
Spain vs. Serbia For 5th, Bulgaria, Germany Survive // 02 August 2008
Serbia remained alive for a chance to possibly defend their U19 FIBA World Championship title by knocking off Russia 85-63 in the 5th-8th place games which can eventually lead to a spot in the U19 Worlds.

Bojan Subotic scored 22 points to lead the Serbs, who will play Spain for fifth place. Spain overcame Latvia 107-91 with Alberto Jodar scoring 21 points and Jorge Santana had 20.
Before The Semis: Numbers Talk // 02 August 2008
The semi-finals are set. Everyone has their own favourite. And all four teams remaining in the race for a medal hope to follow up last summer's champions Serbia as winners of the U18 European Championship Men.

At Buzzer, Latvia Bounce Russia From Semis, Croatia In // 31 July 2008
Kristers Zeidaks hit a lay-up at the final buzzer to hand Latvia a 79-75 victory over Russia, bouncing the Russians from the semi-finals of the U18 European Championship Men and giving Croatia a spot.

Zeidaks finished with 17 points while Kalvis Krumins poured in 30 and Armandis Osins added 12 for Varis Krumins's side, which finished 3-2 in Group F.
